Just over six months ago we got a Saeco Aroma machine.
Never got around to descaling it - my bad - but it kept
plugging away, perhaps with a slight slow down in the speed
of coffee production, until one day it just stopped coming
out. Water would continue to heat up and get pumped out of
the steam wand (if the pump was turned on with the steam
valve open) so the pump was obviously okay. I tried removing
the dispersion head (the filter like thing that is immediately
*above* the coffee grounds), as well as the whole ****tafilter
itself, and water still did not flow.
So I took it to the repair shop; they fixed it, under guarantee
but also under protest, as they said that the problem was due
to lack of maintenance, and that further repairs under guarantee
would not be possible [1].
So when I collected it, they had replaced the entire ****tafilter
(which I don't think had anything wrong with it, apart from being
a bit dirty) and showed me a very sorry looking heating element -
the steel tubing had cracked and the filament was showing.
So if the heating element was that bad, I'm surprised it worked
at all; equally they've not really explained where the blockage
was in the brewing head - it certainly wasn't the ****tafilter.
Any ideas? Apart from the obvious - take more care of it.
If it was all due to scaling, I wouldn't expect it to stop suddenly,
as it did.
In any case, how can they sell these things without descaler?
[1] To be precise - the repair shop sent it to the factory, and
argued the case with the factory.
