It is a legal requirement that wine sold by the glass come in
multiples of 125 or 175ml.  Pretty stupid when you consider it applies
to stickies too - but a few restaurants I know conveniently forget
that fact. Gl***** often come with official fill lines, but providing
the establishment can demonstrate that it measures out the wine they
are not necessary.

I'm not sure why those sizes were settled on, but I am not sure that
having integral fractions of a bottle is im****tant by the time you
have allowed for sediment and spillage.
