Hi gang --
So I've been ghosting here for a while (I work for MI-5 :-) . I'm
pretty experienced -- 10+ batches to date, and all of them drinkable/
pretty decent beer. Pardon the intrusion, but I have a coupla
questions about...
....a carload of new gear that someone just *gave* me a week ago! Some
of it I know how to use -- the glass carboy and turkey-fryer stand are
nice additions to my collection.
However, I'm now the proud owner of two 5-gallon pressurized stainless-
steel tanks with various fittings at the top, and I'm not entirely
sure how to use them. I know they can be pressurized with CO2, so I
reckon they're probably used for secondary fermentation, and he said
something about doing tank-to-tank transfers under pressure to pull
the carbonated beer off the yeast.
There's also a pressure gauge and a tap, so I'm figuring that I can
probably use the tanks as kegs.
Anyone know of good online resources for home keg brewing? I've
checked my brewer's bible ("How to Brew", by Jim Palmer), and there's
nothing in there.
Second question -- is it worth repairing a wort chiller? There's one
in the pile, but it obviously got frozen at some point and the copper
line is split in three or four places. I know I can probably use
pressure fittings, but how expensive is copper tubing, really, and is
it worth fixing the silly thing?
Third, and I think I know the answer to this one -- there were 3
unused brewkits of indeterminate age in the pile. One is a
"brewsack", and two featured canned malt (John Bull) with no dates on
the cans. There are also various barrier bags of hops, a couple of
plastic bags of grain, etc. My incliuation is to throw the whole lot
away and not waste my time. Opinions?
Hey y'all, thanks for your help. Merry Christmas, or happy holidays,
or whatever...

a chance at a holiday brew this year. :-(
